College Knowledge for the Month of October
During the month of October, participating colleges offer incoming students the opportunity to apply to college for free!  Some colleges offer this free opportunity during a designated week in October, while some offer it the entire month of October.  Below is a link to participating colleges.

If you have questions about college, need help setting up a college visit, or need help with the application process please don't hesitate to come to see me or Mr. Stumpf,  we are more than happy to help you.  As a reminder, Mr. Stumpf is available Monday and Wednesday all day.  Feel free to email him for an appointment time dstumpf@isd116.org.

FAFSA October 1, 2019
Seniors and their parents can start filling out the FAFSA using their 2018 tax information starting October 1, 2019.  An email was sent to parents and students detailing how to access the FAFSA online.  More information is under the Financial Aid tab on the counseling website.  There will be a financial aid meeting on Tuesday, October 29 at 5:30-6:00 pm in the Media Center for all seniors and their parents.  A financial aid expert will be there to answer questions and help parents complete the FAFSA.

PSAT Testing, Wednesday, October 16
Juniors interested in taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) can sign up on Google.  A sign-up document was shared with all juniors regarding this testing opportunity. This is the only test that can qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Please see Mrs. Turner for practice test booklet.  The cost to take the exam is $17.00.  Checks can be made payable to Pillager High School.

Grand Casino Career Expo
Come experience the Career Expo on April 3, 2020.  The Grand Casino's mission is to connect area students with fun and knowledgeable professionals.  Their hope is to empower young adults to explore career possibilities with hands-on demonstrations.  For the first time, The Grand Casino will be awarding one lucky school with a scholarship worth $1000.  Schools in attendance will be entered into a drawing.  The winner will be announced at the end.  Prizes, giveaways and lunch will be provided.

Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office Explorers
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office in partnership with Learning for Life introduce teens and young adults ages 14 to 20 year old, to Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Careers through the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office Explorer program.  This program brings the explorers into direct contact with law enforcement on a on-to-one basis through meetings, community engagement functions, competitions, and a ride-along program.  Explorers are trained by Crow Wing County deputies/advisers in law enforcement techniques, community policing, community engagement, first aid and more.  The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post will be hosting a kickoff event on October 9th from 6:30-7:30 pm.
